| Malaysia Airlines Cabin Crew Walk-in Interview 2013 (MAS)
Hello readers! *waving frantically*As per title of my blog entry and yes you got it, Malaysia Airlines Cabin Crew Walk-in Interview. A month ago after I missed their interview back in October, I saw their advertisement of cabin crew walk-in interview being published on their website. With so much interest and passion of flying ever since ancient years ago, i decided to try it out. I decided to go on a serious diet or what we usually called it as crash diet where you only take in a very low calories of food and with lots of water to stay hydrated. I also started gym for already a month and i saw some changes on myself. Not only it improved my skin but also I've a healthier body. So today's blog entry will be all about the interview. The night before the interview, i was so in dilemma thinking of whether should i go for it as because of what i read and heard from blogpost and friends that went for the interview. A few here and there about you need to be really good and stuff. It actually does applies but its not that bad after all. Having a mixed feeling the night before was quite awful because few days before the interview, I've already decided not to go for it but due to some circumstances and some brilliant fairy decided to push me for it. And guess what, I only started working on my resume 4 hours before my interview. I can say that this was my first time interview with Malaysia Airlines. I've been there before for the interview but the first round during the BMI stage, i got kicked out for being a little over weight. They can be really mean and strict. So, this was my first time with them that i actually got into the preliminary interview stage with them. I believed most of the girls out there, little by little they have this dream to be a cabin crew / flight stewardess when they grow up. What does it takes to be a cabin crew actually? What should you do during the interview? What should you bring? What is their requirements? I can give you the answers here. Before going for the interview, you'll need to know what is their basic requirements:
After knowing what is their requirements, then know you need to know what to bring along with you:
*Note: Bring along original and photocopy of Certificates and MyKad
REMEMBER to bring all the 5 items above. Even you forgot to bring one of it, you're automatically disqualified.
I woke up at 6.30am in the morning. I was late as my alarm supposed to be ringing at 5.30am for me to get ready. Quickly went for morning shower and pop in my contact lenses. Done all my make up in 30 minutes including setting up my gracious french twist. Wearing a kebaya can sometimes be pain in the ass because I was wearing a Kebaya Nyonya and not the authentic Malay Kebaya. At 7.30am i hopped into my car and off i went speeding over Kelana Jaya. Their interview was at MAS Academy.
Upon reaching, at 8am the queue was already so damn freaking long and i got my queue number which was 119. There were 118 candidates in front of me. *cold sweats* At that point, when i was walking towards the academy, i was already scolding myself for attending the interview because i was thinking, "Surely gonna fail also this time." That was what i thought and butterflies and bees in the tummy. Freaking out and I am more or less a little excited about it. After getting the queue number, candidates were to be seated at the cafeteria to fill up the registration form and WAIT for Height and Weight measurement. If you did not get the desired BMI range, you can just go back to bed. They will just kick you out even its 0.1 over weight. They are now using the Asian BMI calculation and not the worldwide one anymore.
Make sure your BMI is around Healthy weight range. The best is to be less than 23.
I was so happy that I actually went through this stage and proceed to the registration counter. Over the registration counter, you need to hand them over your completed job application form, your original MyKad and SPM certificate for verifying. After you're done, then climb the stairs up to the second floor and they will ask you to wait in the Lecture Theater. Inside there, you need to pass them your job application and the registration form. After that, you need to fill up your Name, IC, Q/no, Gender, Age and Date on the stickers provided and the next thing was WAIT. Wait for your turn to get into the interview room (Preliminary stage). The wait was horrible. Bear in mind future candidates, make sure you're free for the whole day because the final stage will last till 5-6 or later. If you're successful at the final stage, they will brief you about the bond and etc. Finally after for about 30 minutes of waiting, they finally called up my name and we will be in a group of six for the interview session. It was a very good interview session with the panel interviewers. Quite relaxing environment as we get to laugh all the time when answering them. There are 3 interviewers ( 2 ladies from HR dept and a man (Mr Bobby Sim) from Cabin Crew dept. I guess it was my lucky day that time.
Questions that they've asked:
1. Introduce yourself
2. Why are you here today?
3. Why do you want to be a cabin crew?
Future candidates, below are some of the tips from myself.
After the Preliminary stage, you need to get back to the lecture theater to wait for the results. It is an elimination stage. 15 minutes of waiting and then they finally called up your name and was asked to wait outside for the results announcement. 6 of us and 1 of them got rejected. I WAS IN! Hoorayyyyy! After the results, we were asked to go for the grooming stage. At this stage, the beauticians will be checking on your weight, height, skin condition, scars, tattoos, your nails, neck, chest, arms and legs. Oh and also they will ask you to smile and then they will also check your teeth. After that, you need to walk on the stage. A cat walk la. Be confident and walk like a Miss Universe but no need to wave your hand la. Dont slouch your body.
Finally after the grooming stage, they said go and have a lunch break. Freaking hungry and my stomach was making so much of noise. I did not had my breakfast so the lunch break was actually my brunch.
The longest wait finally arrived. God damn it. I've waited for nearly 3 hours for the Pre-Final and Interactive stage. Now i officially declared that i hate waiting even for 10 minutes. Again i was being paranoid, scared and pissed. I was paranoid of the skin check part, scared of being disqualified and pissed for waiting so long. The bells rang and off we go. 6 candidates in a group again (3 chinese, 2 malays and 1 punjabi). At the stage, you will need to act in a real flight scenario. Before that, again we need to introduce ourselves. The Chinese need to introduce in Malay and the rest in English. Then i was the first candidate and paired up with the punjabi girl. I was the cabin crew and she was the pax (passenger). So, my scenario was the easiest among all. The pax was an elderly lady who has a flight freight. She refused to fasten her seat belt and wanted to get off the plane after the captain's announcement to get ready for take off. And the question was, how should i solve this problem. The exciting part which i loved the most was the FLIGHT ANNOUNCEMENT. I get to make flight announcement. Damn cool wei! * imitating real cabin crew *. There was 3 panel interviewers ( 1 from HR and 2 from in-flight services).
And next after the pre final and interactive stage, you need to wait for the results again. Congrats, 4 of us got in final stage and it was a 2 to 1 interview. If you're successful for the final stage, congrats and now off for your bond briefing.
I successfully went through all the stages and I was only an inch away to be an official cabin crew because i turned down the offer for I've not completed my degree yet. I only left 3 semesters to go and an internship, and I will be back fighting for the job after graduating from my degree.
For the future candidates that are going for their up coming walk in interview, BEST OF LUCK!
I hope my wonderful experience will motivate you. Try it out. Even if you fail, go for the second round walk in interview.
